Green House Effect

Green  House Effect

Today I am telling about Green House Effect. I think every one is familiar with this word.
In recent years, there have been many alarming reports that the worlds climate is undergoing a significant change. All there’s reports provide strong evidence that world temperatures are increasing day by day. This increase in global warming is caused by increased amounts of carbon dioxide around the earth. Most climatologist  believe that The green house effect is the likely cause of this Global warming.
What is Green House Effect??
It is the gradual warming of the air surrounding the earth as a  result of heat being trapped y environmental pollution. This is exemplified by the destruction and burning down of topical rain forests, by traffic that clogs up city streets the rapid growth of industry, the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)  in packing and manufacturing commercial products. The use of detergents such as washing powder and washing up liquid  and so on. The oceans are also said to effected because of human waste and because of pollution caused y  industrial waste products, oil seeping from damaged super tankers and from other maritime disasters. However ,the main culprits for global warming are carbon dioxide gas, produced by  the burning of fossil fuels and forests, and pollutants such as methane and chlorofluorocarbons.

7 tips for winter health

 Tips for winter health

The bitter weather. The short days. The fattening food. Winter brings some of its own health challenges, but you can stay healthy as we head into the springtime. Here are some tips by following these tips you can keep healthy in this winter session.
Due to cold and flu season, chilly weather and holiday stress, it seems like we worry more about our health during the winter than at any other time of year. But do we really need to stress about our well-being this season? We spoke to the experts about the biggest winter health myths and found out the truth.

1. Drink healthy fluids

Sugary and caffeinated beverages can suppress immune-system function, not to mention cause weight gain and dehydration. Drinking six to eight glasses a day of water or herbal tea can keep your digestive system healthy, your weight down and your energy up. This is especially important over the winter months to help flush the system. Green and white teas are also wonderful antioxidant-rich options to keep you healthy throughout the season.

2. Get some z's

Sleeping is one of the most effective ways to refuel after a stressful day. Make sure to sleep in a dark room to ensure your body properly secretes the hormone melatonin, which is believed to help repair the immune system.

3. Avoid added sugars
In addition to causing weight gain, refined flours and sugars can suppress immune-system function. In other words, if there is a flu or cold circulating and you go a little crazy on the white sugar (cookies, pop, candy, etc.), you're creating the perfect environment for illness to strike. Turn to naturally occurring sugars found in fruit for some sweetness. If you crave chocolate, go for dark chocolate (minimum 70 per cent cocoa), which contains plant phenols that have been shown to lower blood pressure. Cut up squares and store them in your freezer. Grab one or two when you need a sweet treat.

4. Go for garlic

The sulfur-containing compounds in garlic help increase the potency of two important cells of the immune system, T-lymphocytes and macrophages, which in turn help battle colds. Eat garlic raw or cooked for an immune-system boost.

5. Eat zinc-rich foods
Zinc helps prevent a weakened immune system. Get adequate amounts by eating oysters, liver, lean beef, pork, turkey, lamb, lentils, pumpkin and sesame seeds, garbanzo beans and yogurt.
6. Favour fruits and veggies
A recent study of more than 35,000 Canadians conducted by the Canadian Community Health Survey showed that the majority of us eat fewer than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day -- Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating recommends eating five to 10 servings per day. One serving is equal to:
• 1 medium-size fresh vegetable or fruit
• 1/2 cup (125 mL) fresh, frozen or canned vegetables or fruit
• 1 cup (250 mL) salad
• 1/2 cup (125 mL) juice
7. Move it
Don't succumb to inactivity this winter -- hit the yoga studio, run on the treadmill or suit up and head outdoors. A brisk walk burns calories, gets the blood flowing and increases energy.
And don't forget to watch your stress levels over the winter -- when we don't get enough sun exposure, mood and energy tend to fluctuate. Journaling, meeting with friends, enjoying "me" time and meditating are all wonderful ways to keep yourself healthy and happy.

keep your kids safe this holiday season

keep kids safe this holiday season

New Zealand's child abuse prevention specialists, Child Matters, want to remind parents and caregivers that at this time of year we must be extra vigilant and mindful of potential risks to children.
Over holiday periods we often do activities that we don't normally do during the year, exposing our childrento different situations that may have the potential to put them at risk.
Amanda Meynell, Child Matters' Academic Services Manager says "Christmas and New Year can be very social times, and children are often present. Think about how you'll ensure they are kept safe over the holiday season."

"It doesn't mean wrapping your kids in cotton wool. It is simply about thinking ahead and putting safety plans in place for both yourself and your children."
Mrs Meynell has put together 8 simple tips to help ensure that your children have a positive and safe holiday season: Make sure you have at least one non-drinking person, who will supervise your children.
Arrange a babysitter prior to the event.
If your child is having a sleep over at a friends home ask yourself how well you know this family. Have you actually met them? Make sure your child knows that if they feel worried or unsafe they can ring you and you will come and get them.
Before children go to any activities eg movies, swimming etc discuss personal safety skills with them. Make a firm plan and make sure they are clear about who will pick them up, where and when. What is their safety plan if they are worried about something?

If you are camping in any public camping ground you need to make sure you know where your children are at all times, particularly regarding toileting, showering, sleeping and social activities.
Set up some rules so you know where your children are. How regularly are they required to "check in" with you?
Take time to fully understand any electronic game your child might receive at Christmas as some games may look innocent and harmless but are actually violent and inappropriate for children. When hiring DVD's check the age restriction. If older children are babysitting (remember the legal age is 14 years) what are the rules about any DVD's they may watch while undertaking their babysitting duties?
Monitor daily what your children have accessed on the Internet.
